PARENTS OF INCOMING KINDERGARTENERS:
To make sure your child is ready for school, California law, Education Code Section 49452.8, now requires that your child have an oral health assessment (dental check-up) by May 31 in either kindergarten or first grade, whichever is his or her first year in public school. Assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. The law specifies that the assessment must be done by a licensed dentist or other licensed or registered dental health professional. INCOMING FIRST GRADERS are required to have a complete physical examination. The reason is for early detection of any illness or physical disability. You may have this exam done by your family physician or local health clinic. It will ensure that your child is healthy and any identified problems may be corrected at the earliest time possible. The exam may be conducted as early as 18 months before admission to first grade. Therefore, parents of incoming kindergarteners should consider having the physical exam completed at the same time as immunizations are updated for school.
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If you have a student who will have medication at school, please make sure that we have the correct Medication Consent form for the current school year. This applies to prescribed and over-the-counter medication. Please make sure that all of these guidelines have been met before bringing medication in:
- Student's name must be on the box or bottle (keep label attached for prescription meds)
- Medication must match exactly what the doctor’s orders say
- The consent form must be signed and stamped by the doctor, and signed by the parent/guardian
- We cannot accept expired medication, please check the date before sending it in

Please remember to update any health condition changes on Q Parent Portal. This information does not carry over from the previous year and it's vital to keep us informed in case of emergencies.
